StarTree was founded by the core software engineering team and inventors of Apache Pinot, which currently powers hundreds of user-facing applications at companies across industries, including LinkedIn, Uber, Target, 7Eleven, Etsy, Walmart, WePay, Factual, Weibo, and more. StarTree Cloud has enabled even more companies to deploy and operate real-time analytics at scale, including Stripe, Sovrn, Roadie, Just Eat Takeaway.com, Dialpad, Guitar Center, Blinkit, and more.

StarTree recently announced our Series B Funding with investment from GGV Capital, Sapphire Ventures, Bain Capital Ventures, and CRV. We have been named one of The Information's 50 Most Promising Startups and one of CRN's 10 Coolest Cloud Computing Startup Companies of 2022!

About StarTree:

1f:T1696,

Team and Responsibilities

Apache Pinot is a distributed analytics database built for real-time applications at massive scale. It powers mission-critical workloads at companies including Splunk, Meesho, CrowdStrike, Together AI, and Charter Telecom, where milliseconds matter and scale is measured in millions of events and tens of thousands of queries per second.

CrowdStrike processes up to 120K events/sec and serves 25K queries/sec; Together AI analyzes billions of LLM token events per hour with sub-second latency; and Charter Telecom operates Pinot at an ingestion scale of 120M events/sec. These aren't just benchmarks—they are production systems powering real customer experiences.

At StarTree, you’ll work on the distributed systems behind this scale—solving hard problems in performance, reliability, concurrency, and data infrastructure. You’ll have the opportunity to make an impact from day one, take ownership of meaningful problems, and grow rapidly in a high-ownership startup environment.

You Will

Own and drive impactful distributed systems problems end-to-end, from inception through production launch.
Collaborate with a strong engineering team to identify and prioritize the most impactful problems and projects for the company.
Raise the quality bar across engineering while helping keep our systems reliable and operationally lean.
Mentor and grow engineers while learning from experienced, battle-tested engineers around you.

Skills & Experience

Strong distributed systems fundamentals and experience solving problems at scale. Our platform is Java-based, so Java experience is a plus, but not a hard requirement.
Bias toward execution — able to take an idea from concept through implementation and deliver it to production.
Deep ownership of quality and customer experience, with a strong focus on reliability, observability, performance, and ease of use.
Adaptability and flexibility — willing to take on whatever is most important for the company and adjust to changing priorities.
Curiosity, positivity, and resilience — comfortable navigating ambiguity and uncertainty while maintaining a constructive, problem-solving mindset.

AI-First Mindset - Comfortable using AI tools in everyday engineering workflows and eager to continuously learn and integrate AI into how you build, debug, test, and solve problems.

About StarTree:
At StarTree, we are a group of passionate individuals who strive to make insights accessible to everyone. Founded by the creators of Apache Pinot®, we're building the real-time analytics platform behind it — software that lets companies derive advanced insights from real-time and historical data in one place.

Pinot powers hundreds of user-facing applications at companies including LinkedIn, Uber, Target, 7-Eleven, Etsy, and Walmart. StarTree Cloud delivers the same as a fully managed platform — so teams like Razorpay, Blinkit, Stripe, Wix, Rippling, together.ai, and Dialpad get real-time analytics at scale without managing the infrastructure.

About the Team:

The Cloud Platform team builds and operates StarTree Cloud — the resilient, auto-scaling platform that makes Apache Pinot available as a fully managed service. We use a single control plane to run and manage hundreds of fully automated Pinot clusters in production, spanning SaaS, BYOC and BYOK deployments across AWS, GCP and Azure.

The Cloud platform team is lean, fast-paced, and innovative, working with state-of-the-art technology while focusing on solving complex challenges at scale.

In this role, you will:

Own the end-to-end development of features in the cloud control plane and data plane platform services, starting from idea to production launch
Manage substantial Kubernetes workloads that span across all major cloud providers
Collaborate with strong engineering and partner teams to deliver effective and scalable solutions for customers
Mentor and grow engineers while learning from the experienced engineers around you

Skills & Experience

Strong software engineering fundamentals and experience solving distributed systems problems at scale. Our services are primarily written in either Go or Java. Go experience would be preferred, not a hard requirement.
Experience building cloud-based deployments, with working knowledge of container orchestration and infrastructure-as-code (Kubernetes, Terraform etc).
Adaptability and versatility — willing to take on whatever matters most for the company and adjust to changing priorities of the business
Curiosity, positivity, and resilience — comfortable navigating ambiguity and uncertainty while maintaining a constructive, problem-solving mindset.
AI-first mindset - Comfortable developing with AI tools and eager to continuously learn and integrate AI into our engineering processes
Open source contributions and / or blog posts are a plus
